Baptiste Power Vinyasa (BPV) yoga is a type of hot power yoga. It was developed by Baron Baptiste, who says it is focused on asana (poses), meditation, and self-inquiry and is intended to be adaptable to any level of physical ability.
The important aspects of the Baptiste method are summarized by the five pillars: breath, heat, flow, gaze, and core stabilization.
Breath
The primary pranayama used in BPV is ujjayi, which is associated with a strong vinyasa practice.
Heat
In official BPV classes, the room should be heated to 90 to 95 degrees.2 This external heating of the room is intended to allow students to quickly stoke their internal fires (tapas) for a loose, sweaty practice.
Flow
Flow is a vinyasa style practice in which movement is linked to breathing. Classes begin with several rounds of surya namaskara A and B, although there is room for some variation here.
Gaze
Drishti means looking at a particular place while doing yoga poses. Students are directed to fix their attention on any point that doesn’t move and to keep their eyes soft.
Core Stabilization
Core stabilization is uddiyana bandha. In BPV, this means the constant drawing in of the belly button toward the spine. It is intended to provide support by engaging the core for balance and strength.
Asheray’s spiritual journey started early in 2012. She discovered healing through yoga, body movement and meditation after healing through a path of self -neglect in her younger years . It was then when she realized there was more to live for! This discovery led her to deepen her awareness of many spiritual practices that have helped her step deeper into her embodiment and self-awareness. Many of the tantric and energy healing practices she shares are self-taught and/or learned from experienced practitioners. She has completed her studies in a 200 Hr RYT and Reiki level 1 and 2. She works in the performance art industry here in Houston and teaches traditional and Aerial yoga. Asheray’ s dream for the world is to help others awaken their confidence and fire through dance and movement medicine
